Hi guys and gals, Just wanted to say how well Somerset KY is welcoming cyclists on their local roads. Just got back from a ride where people were honking for me and raising there fist in the air and really cheering me on. THe local teenagers even stick there head out the window to make sure that they know that i am getting their message and how well they think i am doing. It kind of feels like i am in a race when i ride on the road. They must have "lance fever" because i know that they are actually all race car posers. I mean if they really were adept and followed racing they wouldn't have as much trouble passing a tiny little bicycle on the side of the road without having to honk and cheer him on. I mean that just can't hide their excitement. I can't wait to ride tomorrow and get cheered on somemore!  Posted by Hello

... yeah i bet they were 'cheering'... it's too bad to hear that's the case. is there any riding up there, or is it all redneck-ville?

There seems to be some trails that are accessible...In this area they aren't kept up very well. Not really a core set of riders that i have found. Closer to Lexington there are riders and i hear that the trails are better. I have to explore a little more. There is a decent trail near my house and i have figured out a pretty good loop, but it is disheartening to ride on the road on the way there and home. I have to use my car to get to that trail, but i think i am going out maybe tomorrow to explore some in the hills. This could be a sweet place to ride if there was a phat crew, but most of the locals are into the Nascar stuff and fishing and hanging out at the lake. That stuff is cool though too i guess, but it is a bummer when a few jackasses ruin your ride and make you feel unsafe on the road. Oh well? I want to move out to Portland anyway.

what a depressing story butchie. i remember when seth smith (former cw wrench) moved to tennesse and had about the same sort of experiences. he continued to ride on the road but was very cautious on every ride. and he was a bigger long hair then me. the local probably really loved him for that. do you have a new email address butch? -mw
